Mattupetty Lake and Dam (13 km from Munnar) : Mattupetty Lake and Dam, which lie 13 km from Munnar, enroute Top Station, at an altitude of 1700 mt, is a popular picnic spot with visitors. The lake and dam surrounded by wooded hills and tea plantations, makes a great view. The Shola forests around Mattupetty are ideal for trekking and bird watching, with a variety of birds found. Small streams and waterfalls cut through the tract here and there, which again adds more attraction to the place.
Mattupetty Dam was built in the late 1940's is known for its highly specialised dairy farm-the Indo Swiss Livestock Project. Over a 100 varieties of high-yielding cattle are reared here. Visitors are allowed into 3 of the 11 cattle sheds at the farm. The Mattupetty lake and dam, just a short distance from the farm, is a very beautiful picnic spot. The sprawling Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are other attractions in the vicinity. DTPC Idukki provides boating facilities on the Mattupetty Dam Lake.
Nilagiri Tahr
ERAVIKULAM NATIONAL PARK (15 kms from Munnar): The Eravikulam National Park was established to protect the Nilgiri Tahr, an endangered species of the wild goat and the only one to be found south of the Himalayas. Rich in forest and grasses, this park is relatively new as it was in 1978 that the area was notified as a park. The park lies along the high ranges of the western coast in the Munnar Forest Division of Idukki district in Kerala. It is situated on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the north where it is extends as the Annamalai National Park.
Apart from the Nilgiri Tahr, which is a goat found in South India, the Eravikulam National Park is also home to Atlas Moth, Elephants, Sambhars, Gaurs, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Tigers and Leopards. Another major attraction of the place is the Anamudi peak (2,695 m); the highest peak in south India is located within the park area. This offers a good trekking ground and thus attracts many people. The picturesque beauty of the park with its lush green hills has been compared to the Alpine Meadows of Switzerland and is a treat for sore eyes.
Swiss Livestock Project Farm: Also known as Mattupetti (cattle village), the Swiss Livestock Project is a highly specialized dairy farm where over a hundred breeds of highly yielding cattle are reared in eleven cattle sheds. Visitors are allowed into three of the sheds during fixed hours. The project was established in 1961 by Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB).

Pothamadu(6 km from Munnar): Pothaamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here are ideal for trekking and long mountain walks Pothamedu is one of the major plantation hubs of Munnar. Views of coffee, tea, and cardamom plantations are excellent from here. It is also an ideal place for trekking and hiking amidst lush mountains, rolling hills, and breathtaking scenery.

Devikulam (7 km from Munnar): This idyllic hill stations with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.

Pallivasal (8 km from Munnar): This is the venue of the first Hydro electric Project in Kerala and a place of immense scenic beauty. It has the distinction of being home to the first hydropower project in Kerala.

Attukal (9 km from Munnar): A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treaks. Attukal - The place is highly rejuvenating with its panoramic waterfalls and rolling hills. An ideal place for long trekking, Attukal is situated between Munnar and Pallivasal. A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treks.

Nyayamakad(10km from Munnar): Located between Munnar and Rajamala. Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 metres. The enchanting surroundings make an excellent picnic spot and trekking point. Nyayamakad - An excellent picnic and trekking point.

Chithirapuram (10 km from Munnar): With its sleepy little cottages, bungalows, old playgrounds and courts, Chithirapuram still exudes an old-world charm.Home of the Pallivasal Hydel Power Project, this hill town is also famous for its picturesque tea plantations. Chithirapuram - Once the favorite of the British, this small hill station is pristine and calm with a special king of allure.

Lock Heart Gap (13km from Munnar): This is an ideal place for adventure tourism and trekking. The fresh mountain air, the mist clad hills and panoramic view make it worthy of visit.

Rajamala (15km from Munnar): This is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr. Half the world population of the rare mountain goat (Hemitragas bylocres) which is fast becoming extinct, is now found here. The Nilgiri tahrs are today redused to small herds found in the Eravikulam-Rajamala region. The total number of Nilgiri tahrs in Rajamala is estimated at 1317.

Echo Point (15 km from Munnar): This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here. Echo Point is on the way to Top Stations from Munnar.

Power House waterfalls (18 km from Munnar): This waterfall on the way to Thekkady from Munnar cascades down a steep rock, 2000m above sea level. The spot is enriched with the scenic western mountain ranges, and is an ideal place for a break on the way to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady.

Kundala (20 km from Munnar): Kundala is a picturesque town on the way to Top Stations. The Golf Course which belongs to Tata Tea Ltd. is located here. The Kundala artificial dam is another attraction. Aruvikkad waterfalls is also near Kundala.

Anayirangal (22 kms from Munnar): It's a lush green carpet of tea plants. A trip on the splendid reservoir is an unforgettable experience. The Anayirangal dam is surrounded by Tea plantations and evergreen forests. It is an ideal picnic spot.

Marayoor (40 kms from Munnar): This is the only place in Kerala that has a natural growth of sandalwood trees. The sandalwood factory of the forest department, the caves(muniyaras) with the murals and relics from the New stone age civilization and the children's park spread across a hectare of land under the canopy of a single banyan tree, are of great interest to tourists. Thoovanam waterfalls and Rajiv Gandhi National Park are also nearby. Exotic and pristine, Marayoor is a unique place where tourism meets adventure.

Marayoor is not only the ideal tourist destination but it also claims to be a part of Stone Age Civilization that is as old as 10000 B.C. The land and its unique dolmens, caves, rock edicts and engravings declare its rich heritage. The scenic Marayoor is also noted for its natural growth of sandal wood and sprawling wild life. Marayoor travelers often find themselves in the middle of history, nature and adventure.

Cheeyappara: The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are located between Neriamangalam and Adimali on the Kochi - Madurai highway. The Cheeyappara Falls cascades down in seven steps surrounded by thick green forests.. It is a real feast for the eyes. This is also a great place for trekking.

Meenuli: Meenuli is an ideal place for trekking with its huge rock extending over 500 acres in area and two acres of evergreen forests upon it. From the top of the rock, one can see the Lower Periyar Area, Bhoothathankettu and even up to Ernakulam on a fine day.

Thommankuthu Water Falls: the Thommankuthu water falls as a nature lover's delight. Abounding in natural splendor, the place has got 24 stages of waterfalls, starting from a height of 5000 ft, above sea level. The water fall is thronged by tourists, throughout the year. The best way to enjoy the panoramic beauty of the waterfalls is to take a trek that takes one to the top of the mountains. From here one can view the breathtaking sight and savor truly unforgettable moments.

Malankara Reservoir: An important irrigation project of kerala, the malankara reservoir is in fact, an artificial lake formed as part of the muvattupuzha valley irrigation project. Located at a distance of 6 kms from Thodupuzha, the Malankara reservoir is a sight for behold. The all-pervading beauty of nature around this reservoir is enough to take one's breath away.
