& Ekshi:
These two hand carved futurities
portrayed on the staircase entrance

Story goes that a devote thirumeni
( upper caste temple priest)
while returning home from the
temple and carrying a vessel
of rice during the dark hours
of the night, was confronted
by an Ekshi ( female demon who
waylays passerby’s and
drinks their blood) in |
|
the
guise of a enchanting woman.
The thirumeni who was well versed
in the Manthras , saw through
the ruse ad did not respond
as intended. The enraged ekshi
who had by now transformed into
its original form, attacked
the thirumeni. The thirumeni’s
faith, devotion and knowledge
of the Vedas helped him escape
